You will work alongside both our Lower and Upper GI surgical teams in order to optimise medicines management in a wide range of complex cases including bariatrics.

Your role will involve close collaboration with the nutritional services in the provision of both short term and long term parenteral nutrition.

We actively encourage engagement with research and training of the pharmacy team and the wider MDT.

Main duties of the job

You will be patient facing active prescriber, ensuring medicines reconciliation is completed, review all aspects of pharmaceutical care and ensure medicines optimisation and safety.

You will drive forward the antimicrobial stewardship plans to optimise patient outcomes.

Your week will be varied, providing cover on both the PN ward rounds, the intestinal failure unit and surgical admissions lounge as needed whilst providing support and leadership to pharmacists providing ward services across surgical directorates.

You will work with the pharmacists with other surgical specialities to drive forward our wider clinical pharmacy service for the future. You will support the NCA medicines optimisation strategy and clinical governance processes and be a role model for others.

Essential criteria
  • Vocational Master’s degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Post Grad Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy
  • Independent Prescriber

Registration

Essential criteria
  • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council

Knowledge Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Professional knowledge acquired through vocational master’s degree in pharmacy.
  • Extensive post qualification hospital experience or equivalent documented experience
Desirable criteria
  • Line management experience
  • Project management experience
  • Experience within surgical services and provision of parenteral nutrition
