This is an exciting opportunity to gain or extend your clinical experience of Metabolic Medicine in the unique and supportive environment of Great Ormond Street Hospital. As a valued member of the team you will be included in the educational and training activities of the units and will be offered study leave. Clinical research activities will also be encouraged.
We are looking for a Trust Doctor to join the Metabolic Medicine Department. The post is to start as soon as possible in a 6 month fixed term basis initially, with possibility of extension. The post will provide an excellent experience for someone wishing to train in Paediatrics. The post is also very suitable for someone who wishes to consolidate their previous experience/training in Metabolic Medicine. MRCPCH part I (or equivalent) is essential. The post is not recognised for training.
This is a 6 month post initially comprising of a 6 month placement in the department of Paediatric Metabolic Medicine with the possibility of extension.
The post holder will work as part of a team covering the clinical aspects and day-to day running of the Metabolic Medicine services during the day time Monday to Friday. The post holder will be covering long days, weekends as well as the night on call commitment

Clinical Training and Responsibilities:
- To assist in the care of metabolic inpatients, including planning of admissions, investigations, and outpatient follow-up.
- Referral service for patients throughout the hospital with metabolic problems.
- Daily review of metabolic inpatients on Kingfisher and Squirrel wards
- Provide an inpatient metabolic service to patients admitted by other teams and to review as needed.
- To assist in the management of both diagnosed or new metabolic patients in other hospitals
- Attendance at outpatient clinics and consultant-led ward-rounds.
- Supporting clinical trials carried out in the clinical research facility under the Metabolic Unit.
- On-call commitment for the Medical Unit.
- Carrying out ward duties as discussed on ward round.
- Weekly metabolic meetings.
Non-Clinical Training and Responsibilities
- The trainees and fellows will be encouraged to take part in the Unit’s research activities.
- Contribution to regular audit and clinical governance activities
- Presentation at Grand Round of patients admitted for investigation and interpretation of their results
- Liaising with parents.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings
- Contribute to the departmental teaching programme
- Teaching nursing staff and Junior doctors
- Presentation of cases at regional meeting

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

- Primary medical qualification - MBBS or equivalent
- Full GMC registration (obtained by designated start date)
- MRCP, MRCPCH or equivalent

- Higher degree – MSc, MPhil related discipline
