Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will have a strong commitment to multi-disciplinary working community and service user involvement.  Experience of working with diversity in a multicultural setting is important. 

The post-holder will be expected to provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy (1:1 and group) for children and young people. The candidates will be expected to offer advice, training, and consultation to other members of the team and support to other non-professionals.

You will also contribute to the ongoing development of effective treatment models, in particular considering the range of psychological interventions that the team should aim to provide. They will also play an active role in initiatives to optimise psychological therapy resources.

Clinical:

• To provide high quality, responsive and accessible specialist and culturally adapted psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions to children and young people (aged 0-25 years) affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.
• To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose difficulties are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
• To provide specialist consultation, as appropriate, to local organisations and referring GPs about psychological aspects of care for people with PTSD, complex trauma or traumatic bereavement.
• To arrange further referral of clients to other NHS and non-NHS teams and organisations in consultation with the client and GP.
• To liaise with voluntary and community organisations about client care and provide advice around psychological therapy issues; to have extensive local knowledge of associated services.
• To be responsible for keeping clinical records and maintaining client records across sites.
• To be responsible for ensuring a suitable environment for the provision of psychological therapies on NHS sites and in community settings.
• To undertake risk assessment and management in accordance with the Trust Clinical Risk Policy
• To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner when providing information concerning the assessment, formulation and intervention plans of clients under your care and to monitor and evaluate progress.
• To work between sites as required; to be responsible for the provision of administrative and personal resources when there is no work base; and to maintain transport arrangements between sites.
• To work with interpreters where necessary.

Teaching, training, and supervision

• To attend regular supervision with the service.
• To supervise less experienced staff as required, ensuring that they acquire the necessary skills, competencies and experience to practice effectively.
• To be involved, as appropriate, in the shortlisting and interviewing of assistant/graduate psychologists.
• To provide information resources, consultation and training to other professionals as required in the provision of psychological interventions.
• To provide multi-agency advice, consultation and training around psychological issues
• To maintain and develop skills and expertise in the areas of psychological therapies for people with PTSD, complex trauma and/or traumatic grief.

Information/Administration

• To keep up to date activity data (electronic or handwritten) in line with the Trust’s wider information systems and with respect to all aspects of direct and indirect clinical work.
• To keep adequate clinical records and ensure that these conform to the Trust and relevant professional standards and policies on records, report writing and file keeping. To have knowledge of the legislation rules and procedures governing client and other agency access to information.
• To be responsible for the maintenance and security of client records across sites.
• To maintain frequent contact with the Grenfell Health and Wellbeing Service administrative base.

Research and service evaluation

• To input relevant clinical information and activity data onto the appropriate clinical database in an efficient and timely manner that supports ongoing monitoring and audit of the service.
• To support audits, surveys and research programmes that may be carried out by the Grenfell Health and Wellbeing Service.

IT responsibilities 

• To maintain professional and personal records on computer, as appropriate
• To enter data onto local Trust IT systems and databases, as appropriate
• To utilise IT methodologies, such as e-mail and the internet, to access clinical and professional information and to communicate with colleagues.

General

• To work in an emotionally demanding environment that requires prolonged intense concentration and potential exposure to aggression and emotional distress on a daily basis.
• To maintain professional communication and relationship skills in a complex, highly emotive (and potentially hostile) setting.
• To ensure the development, maintenance and dissemination of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes.
• To act as a reflective practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of psychological therapy and related disciplines.
