Trosolwg o'r swydd

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Fellow in Clinical Haematology to work in our newly formed Directorate of Oncology and Haematology based at Northwick Park Hospital with a view to achieving all ST3 competencies during this 12-month period. This will be particularly attractive to a fellow wishing to achieve all competencies to become a haematology consultant via the portfolio pathway or for a fellow who wishes to get haematology experience with a view to applying for deanery training in the future. There may be an opportunity to extend this post beyond 12 months to develop further competencies.

This post includes additional study budget funding to allow the successful candidate to attend the essential transfusion course, which is compulsory for haematology deanery trainees and is recommended to be done during the ST3 year.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who wish to pursue a career in haematology and develop the skills and experience required for this. The applicants will be expected to work with the multi-disciplinary teams on the ward, supporting the Consultants and providing supervision to junior medical staff.

Candidates will gain experience of both malignant and non-malignant haematology and have access to weekly seminar and morphology teaching.

Applicants should have full GMC registration and experience in medicine. Previous haematology experience and MRCP examinations are desirable.

The post-holder will be an integral part of the Haematology service provided to the Trust and the appointee will provide care for inpatient and outpatient haematology patients. The appointee will be given opportunities to become competent in performing bone marrow biopsies and an opportunity to learn morphology / peripheral blood smear interpretation if they are interested in considering a longer-term career in haematology. The post will be based at Northwick Park Hospital.

The post-holder will be provided with additional study budget to facilitate attendance on the essential transfusion medicine course as is a requirement for haematology ST3s in training. There is also additional consultant supervision attached to this post to aid the post-holder in meeting ST3 requirements within 12 months.

The Clinical Haematology service has a practice covering the whole range of blood diseases, including malignancies, haemostasis and thrombosis, anaemias, haemoglobinopathies and haemolytic disorders.

Haematology patients are located on a newly furbished ward. The post holder will be expected to provide support to junior staff and help ensure continuity of care for patients admitted to the unit. The successful candidate will have previous haematology experience and will be expected to pursue clinical research and audit projects.
