Clinical

• To undertake initial mental health and risk assessment of CYP who present with high risk and/or following acts of deliberate self-harm.
• To independently and/or jointly carry out assessments of the mental health needs of children and young people within a therapeutic framework and to contribute fully to the care planning process.
• To provide a high standard of care for people in the care group in keeping with the philosophy and operational policies for the Crisis Team and in addition to the Trust’s policies, practice, and procedures.
• To conduct accurate risk assessments and management plans, involving the service user, carer, and any other individuals relevant to the care of the service user, and to ensure that this is well documented (on RiO). All this in conjunction with other team members where appropriate.
• To be responsible for negotiating co-ordinated rehabilitative care packages, in conjunction with other professional agencies and networks, prior to discharge from inpatient units back to the community.
• To identify, respond appropriately to child protection issues within local, Pan London and national Safeguarding Children guideline i.e. take part in case conferences, review meetings and planning meetings as appropriate.
• To link resources and co-ordinate services for young people and their families experiencing disruption because of severe mental illness.
• To ensure, in conjunction with the Crisis Team Manager, the follow up of children and young people who attend hospital following episodes of suicide attempt or self-harm.
• To ensure effective communications with relatives, other professionals, and voluntary organisations, thus encouraging participation in care delivery.  To respond sensitively to the needs of relatives and carers.
• To develop strong links with the CAMHS Teams, as well as other professional groups/teams.
• To provide specialist consultation to the families and others involved in the care of the young person.
• To assist with the management of the behaviour of children and young people who at times may be physically and verbally aggressive towards other members of the family and staff.
• To offer advice to other professionals within CAMHS and externally, as well as share their expertise in the management of complex cases in a variety of settings.
• To communicate in a clear and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation, and treatment plans for service users and to monitor progress during multi-disciplinary care.
• To offer short therapeutic interventions on the phone to patients and their families with the therapeutic modality in which they have experience.

Professional, Teaching, Training and Supervision

• To be committed to developing professional skills, knowledge, and expertise through training and other professional development activities.
• To receive regular professional supervision from a senior clinician in your relevant profession.
• To gain additional highly specialist experience and skills relevant to CAMHS work.
• To participate actively in the development and delivery of a teaching program for trainee professionals and team members as identified.
• To provide consultation and possibly supervision to more junior colleagues as well as other professionals within CAMHS.
• To remain up to date concerning relevant clinical, social and legal issues. To be aware of relevant research findings.
• To maintain knowledge of relevant legislation in relation to children and adolescents including safeguarding children and young people, child protection procedures and policies.
• To update training regularly on safeguarding and other relevant mandatory topics.
• Provides the highest standard of professional and expert clinical leadership that influences advanced level of practice in mental health and demonstrates positive role modelling.
• Promote a culture of learning and continuous service improvement amongst the team.
• To participate in the orientation, comprehensive induction and meaningful training of new staff.
• To lead on and contribute to informal and formal training delivered to staff and other agencies where required.
• Work closely with the Operational Manager to achieve best practice in the service, identifying individual and collective training needs in this respect.
• Support the Operational Manager in developing the Service as a possible educational placement.
• Attend all Trust Mandatory Training and ensure this is given priority for all staff; keeping up to date records of all staff attendance.
• Through supervision and appraisal demonstrate personal reflection skills, acknowledge own areas for development and identify / access training as appropriate.
• To be aware of and practice professional accountability with due regard to relevant professional body.
