Job overview
We are looking for a customer focused manager to work within the Facilities Management Department, delivering a high-level Soft Services provision to the Colindale site.
The main delivery functions will be cleaning, catering, grounds maintenance, and waste management. The successful candidate will manage and be responsible for the Soft Services outsourced provision.
Due to the nature of the role we will expect you to be based on site full time.
Main duties of the job
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Delivery of the Soft Services provision, meeting and exceeding the specification
- Monitoring management of the quality, safety and performance of the soft services outsourced provider
- Building collaborative relationships with operational stakeholders
- Input into regular reporting relating to initiatives you are leading in line with the agile methodology used across the site, as well as feeding into general governance processes
- Building up expert knowledge of operations, stakeholders and the site functions

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will be working with the Head of Site Services (HSS) and will lead and manage the delivery of the Soft Services provision ensuring that it meets and wherever possible, exceeds the requirements and the specification. You will be responsible for the managing and monitoring of the outsourced providers performance, quality and safety and achieving value for money.
You will work collaboratively with stakeholders from around the business to ensure successful delivery, involving close liaison with department managers to assess their current and future facilities requirements.

The role requires a self-starter with an eye for detail, who has the confidence to navigate, with support, a complex stakeholder and solution environment, to deliver a high performing service.
You will deputise for the HSS on Soft Services facilities and other management matters as determined by the HSS.
You will be assessed on the below listed essential criteria, which have been selected from the Job Description.
Essential criteria
- Significant successful facilities management experience in a demanding environment, including design and operations of facilities, including experience at senior management level.
- Previously responsible for a budget, involved in budget setting and working knowledge of financial processes.
- Used to working in a busy environment.
Desirable criteria
- Significant knowledge of estates, facilities and building management systems, their implementation and management, e.g. CAFM, Planet
- Facilities management experience of a high containment, science based organisation.
- Knowledge of current and future UK and International Estates Standards, carbon standards and carbon training schemes, sustainability targets.
- Comprehensive experience of project principle techniques and tools such as PRINCE2 and Managing Successful Projects
Selection Process:

Stage 2: Interview
You will be invited to a (single) face to face interview

There will be a Technical Test and assessment, with instructions provided in advance.

Eligibility Criteria

Starting salary
Entrants to the Civil Service are expected to start on the minimum of the pay band.
The internal roles rules apply to existing Civil Servants, i.e. level transfers move on current salary or the pay range minimum, transfers on promotion move to new pay range minimum or receive 10% increase.
Either case is determined by whichever is the highest.
