We have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our acute team of dietitians at Scunthorpe General Hospital working as a Dietetic Assistant Practitioner whilst our substantive team member is on maternity leave.  Working under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide nutrition support to inpatients. 
You will be joining a friendly team who are part of the wider Nutrition and Dietetic Service in Scunthorpe and Grimsby.  CPD is well supported and there will be the opportunity to undertake further training to develop skills within Dietetics as well as regular in house supervision and training, to develop your skills. We will provide a robust and flexible training package to work around the needs of the individual applicant.

Candidates without the required qualifications/ experience for a Band 4 role, but who meet the requirements for a Band 3 role, may be considered for a Band 3 post.

Main duties of the job

The function of this role is to manage a defined caseload of patients as delegated by the Dietitian in a range of settings, including in community and in a hospital environment.

The use of evidence based/patient centred principles is required to assess, plan and implement treatment and discharge clients under the supervision of a registered Dietitian.

Work unsupervised, reporting back patient progress and informing the dietitian/s of any problems.

To provide leadership and support for assistant staff, as delegated by your Team Lead.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Level 5 - Foundation degree FdSc in appropriate subject
  • Level 2 Functional skills Maths and English (Equivalent GCSE grade A*- C/ 9-4)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Nutrition degree
  • Demonstrated interest in food and nutrition via additional study

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent team working skills with ability to lead in some situations
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Flexible and able to adapt to a changing work environment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in teaching/ delivering training

Occupational experience and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience working within a nutrition or therapy related clinical setting as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to manage an allocated caseload independently without supervision
  • Clear and effective communication skills with patients and staff
  • Ability to complete written records to a high standard and with attention to detail
  • Ability to research and evaluate current evidence/research
  • Ability to gather, analyse and present data
  • Competent IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of supporting people with dietetic needs
  • Experience of using SystmOne
  • Experience of working with Dietitians
