We are recruiting for a Clinical Sister / Charge Nurse who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the  Best of Care by the Best People  and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

Must have critical care experience for at least two years.

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will be expected to deputise the Senior Sister / Senior Charge Nurse and act as a role model for junior team members in the delivery of high standard and nursing care.

As a Clinical Sister / Charge Nurse you will provide strong clinical leadership skills by supporting, energising and be able to empower others in the pursuit of a shared vision to ensure the effective management of the ward.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide strong clinical leadership skills, supporting, energising, inspiring and empowering others in pursuit of a shared vision to ensure the effective management of the Intensive Care Unit.

To be responsible for the teaching , supervision, assessment of students and junior staff.

To attend and participate in team and unit meetings, to exercise leadership, coordinate and manage the nursing team.

To demonstrate effective management of staffing levels in accordance with the needs of the service.

To provide an effective specialised resource (practical and theoretical) within the High Dependency Unit.

To be responsible for developing clinical skills and knowledge through on going education and life-long learning, ensuring that nursing practice is up-to-date and evidence based with the scope of practice.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RN1/RN2/RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register.
  • BSc / 1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification / training / experience
  • Mentorship / teaching qualification
  • Critical care experience of at least two years

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
  • Awareness of clinical governance and risk management issues
  • Knowledge of evidence based practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience of effectively leading the care and management of critically ill patients
  • Experience of teaching / assessing / supervising others in a clinical setting
