Are you interested in an excellent opportunity to work across a paediatric dysphagia pathway, with a specialist focus on neonatal care?
This opportunity has been funded to enable further development of a specialist pathway across DCHS children’s community SLT and Royal Derby Hospital NICU and Children’s Hospital.
You will be part of a team of SLTs working across this pathway and will provide leadership and a highly specialist service delivery, including videofluoroscopy assessments.
There will be peer support from the acute SLT team at RDH and community team in DCHS.
You will be able to utilise and develop highly-specialist skills and to influence the pathway improving the outcomes for babies, children and their families.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd
This role will be split 3 days at Royal Derby Hospital and 2 days in the community, however there will be a flexible approach to cover the pathway as needed.
The role will operate as a highly specialist clinical SLT across the neonatal unit and children's hospital at The Royal Derby Hospital . The role will also provide highly specialist clinical input to children and babies with dysphagia in the community.
The role will provide leadership, service delivery co-ordination and influence service developments for children and neonates.

We are a large and dynamic Speech and Language Therapy service of more than 90 staff, working across all service areas in Derbyshire.
The Purpose and Activities of DCHS: Our purpose is to provide community health services to a patient population of over one million people in Derbyshire and Derby, as part of Joined Up Care Derbyshire.
We employ around 4,200 substantive staff, caring for patients in 11 community hospitals and more than 30 health centres, as well as in clinics, GP practices, schools, care homes and, increasingly, in people’s own homes and via virtual consultations.

Education Qualifications and Training

- Evidence of post graduate training in evidence based approaches to the management of disorders relating to this highly specialist field
- Membership of relevant Clinical Network
- Experiential training to demonstrate specialist skills

- Masters level degree relevant to post
Experience and knowledge required

- Extensive experience of working with children and neonates who have swallowing and communication difficulties.
- Experience of working in an acute setting, including NICU.
- Recent and relevant post-qualification SLT experience

- Experienced in developing case management skills in less experienced staff.

- Excellent interpersonal skills- including observation, listening and empathy skills.
- Ability to negotiate and influence as an equal at consultant level across the MDT and other agencies.
- Ability to be a good team member and assume leadership responsibilities.
- In depth knowledge of national policies and procedures ( relevant to specialist client group)
- Understanding of the impact of local cultural, linguistic and demographic factors which influence service delivery in area of clinical specialism
