Job overview
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 Orthopaedic Scrub Team Leader to join our Halton hospitals elective and Trauma service at Captain Sir Tom Moore Building.
We are currently in progress in expanding our department, building a fifth theatre. Exciting changes!
You will possess excellent communication, influencing and leadership skills and be expected to have extensive experience within your respective fields.
As a key member of the theatre co-ordinating team, you will be responsible for overseeing the theatre department in the absence of the theatre manager and have the ability to motivate, support and develop staff within our department.
You will be empathetic in your approach and able to remain calm in pressurised situations.
In March 2023, CSTM theatres got the Gold Star award Accreditation for Care & Excellence.
Main duties of the job
As a part of the CSTM/Nightingale Band 6 team providing the highest standard of care, you will have direct line management responsibility including but not limited to, assessment; planning; implementation and evaluation of elective perioperative care programs.
You will be able to demonstrate a high standard of clinical practice and have a passion for teaching and mentoring.

We actively encourage applications from experienced practitioners (NMC/ HCPC registered) with extensive theatre expertise who are currently either working in a Band 6 role or are a Band 5 wishing to progress into a team leader role.

Working for our organisation
Captain Sir Tom Moore building (Halton site) is a site with four laminar flow theatres and perform a wide range of orthopaedic surgery such as elective orthopaedics, sports injury, joint revision, and ambulatory trauma cases. We also perform general surgery.
Warrington Hospital have eight theatres on the Warrington acute site which provides services for the following specialties: Gynaecology, Obstetrics, General Surgery including laparoscopic surgery, Urology, Breast Surgery, ENT, Dental, Colorectal, Ophthalmic, Trauma & Orthopaedics, and Paediatrics.
24-hour Trauma, Obstetric and Emergency service.
The Nightingale building (Halton site) is part of our elective general surgery hospital which has two theatres for elective and Chronic Pain services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will also have opportunities to work across sites (based on service demand) at the Nightingale Building (Halton Hospital Site) and at Warrington Hospital to support Children’s Surgery and patients who require enhanced clinical support.
It will be reflected in your contract to include late weekends and night duties across all Trust sites, to ensure all essential services are covered. However, at CSTM theatres we currently only support a weekday provision.
Contracted full time hours for CSTM department are Monday-Friday:
Scrub and Anaesthetic:
3 x shifts 08.00-17.30
1 x shift 08.00-19.00
Recovery:
1 x shift 08.00-17.30
2 x shifts 08.00-18.00
1 x shift 09.00-19.00
Part time hours will normally be 08.00-17.30/19.00 (depending on the contracted hours)

Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 2 years post registration experience
- Evidence of department management
- Experience of leading, motivating and supporting a team
- Experience of managing resources
- Experience of delegating workload and monitoring progress
- Experience of Change Management Strategy
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- HCPC ODP Registration or NMC Registration
- Perioperative Post Registration Education; recent Personal & Professional Development
- Surgical Scrub and Circulating accredited course
- Preceptor/Mentor or Clinical Assessors Course
Desirable criteria
- Recognised Recovery Module
- Recognised Transfer Course
- Surgical First Assistant Qualification
- ALS Certificate
- Basic management course Or must attain within the first 12 months
