Due to a recent restructure and creation of senior leadership roles, we are looking to recruit two lead pharmacists:
Lead Pharmacist – Specialised Medicines & Homecare
Lead Pharmacist - Elderly, Community Services and Palliative Care
This is a fantastic opportunity to join our team and to develop and lead on services both within the Pharmacy Department, Trust and wider system. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated and able to provide clinical expertise and leadership to ensure delivery of high-quality pharmacy services to designated areas.
This is an exciting time to join the team as we have new pharmacy leadership, changes in the pharmacy team structure and leadership and implementing digital technologies including electronic prescribing and medicines administration systems from Autumn 2024.
Macclesfield is ideally located, being on the doorstep of the Peak District, with efficient links into Manchester. This is a fantastic location to explore and experience the best of the Northwest. If you are looking to relocate and try somewhere new, this is the place to come to.
These are full time (37.5 hours) permanent posts, yet part-time hours will be considered.
Main duties of the job
The roles and duties of this post include:
- To be the lead pharmacist supporting clinical pharmacy services in designated specialism.
- To lead on the drug cost- improvement programme for specified services, prioritising initiatives and ensuring the ward-based pharmacy teams are fully informed of their individual roles and responsibilities with regard to this programme.
- To be pharmacy support for drug incident reviews and action plans within specified services.
- Work alongside other lead pharmacists in delivering collaborative services across the trust.
- Developing close working relationships with other members of the multi-disciplinary team and contributing to clinical care plans.
- Responding to medication-related queries, providing advice on prescribing and promoting evidence-based practice
- Providing line management and supervision to the clinical and specialist Pharmacists in the tea

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Master’s degree in pharmacy (MPharm) or recognised equivalent
- Post Graduate Clinical Diploma or Masters
- 12 months pre-registration training
- Registered with the GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council)
Desirable criteria
- Non-medical prescribing qualification
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria
- Expert understanding of therapeutics and all aspects of medicines used within designated specialism
- Knowledge of and ability to apply all aspects of regulatory legislation and guidelines to hospital pharmacy
- Knowledge of appraisal processes
- Ability to prioritise competing demands and manage own time effectively for successful delivery
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Desirable criteria
- Ability to think strategically
- Ability to manage change
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience within hospital clinical pharmacy
- Significant experience within designated specialism
- Significant experience of policy and guideline development
- Experience of co-ordinating and leading on clinical audit
Desirable criteria
- Experience of collaborative working
- Experience of leading a team
- Experience of HR processes including recruitment, management of performance, sickness and objective setting
- Experience of teaching across multi-disciplinary groups
Specific Job Requirement

- Able to comply with all trust policies
- Available out of hours within one hours travel of Macclesfield DGH
- Good health and professional appearance
