Trosolwg o'r swydd

This is a part-time band 7  Practitioner Psychologist based in the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Service, based at University Hospital, Wales. 

The post holder will work closely ACHD  psychology team and ACHD MDT to provide direct psychological care to  adults living with  congenital heart disease and their families to help them manage the psychological aspects of living with a life long heart condition.  

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The main duties of the job include psychological assessment and intervention for individuals living with adult congenital heart disease and their families.  This may include support to manage treatments and medical investigations, support to make decisions about treatment options, strategies for coping, end of life care as well as support for other difficulties such as trauma, anxiety and depression. We offer both individual and group interventions. 

The role also includes supporting the ACHD MDT.  This may involve consultation, joint working, supervision groups as well as teaching and training. 

The post holder will be involved in service development and innovation, as well as research and audit. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Cardiff & Vale University Health Board’s South Wales Adult Congenital Heart Disease Service is based in University Hospital, Wales within the Specialist Services Clinical Board and is also part of the wider South Wales and South West CHD Network. The post offers an exciting opportunity for a Practitioner Psychologist - Band 7. The post holder will join an established specialist multi-disciplinary service for people living with congenital heart disease,  their families, and care networks. The post holder will provide direct psychological care for those living with congenital heart disease and their families.

The post-holder will work under close direction of the Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist who is based in the team. You will join a multidisciplinary team. The work includes many clinical aspects including inpatient ward work,  outpatient  work, individual and group interventions, preparation for transplantation, ensuring excellence in transitional care, and working on innovative delivery methods for psychology. For example, we are currently piloting outdoor based wellbeing groups. The post is the main source of psychological expertise for people with adult congenital heart disease in South Wales.

Part of the role is supporting and working jointly with our specialist multidisciplinary staff. Psychological skills and expertise are highly valued within our services.

You will join a small and dynamic MDT. There is an opportunity to help develop and improve psychological care within congenital heart disease - via service development, innovation, consultancy, and skills teaching/training.

The post is part-time and would suit someone interested in developing their career applying psychology to medical settings.  

It is essential for this post to hold a Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent), and to be a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist.

This is an exciting time to join Cardiff and Vale UHB as there is a thriving Clinical Health Psychology & Neuropsychology Speciality, and an increasing awareness of the importance of psychological factors in medical settings. There is an active professional network for clinical/practitioner psychologists in South Wales. Qualifications

  • Good Honours degree in Psychology with eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the BPS.
  • Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology accredited by the HCPC (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 as accredited by the BPS
  • HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist.

  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practised within clinical/counselling psychology.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of clinical/counselling psychology theory and practice, assessment, psychological therapies and their application.
  • Willingness to develop knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to mental health/psychological problems and neuropsychology within a medical setting.
  • Participation with CPD as recommended by the BPS.
