Consultant ENT Surgeon Specialising in Otology

Consultant

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to join our ENT team. We are looking to recruit a Consultant ENT Surgeon specialising in Otology.

The ENT department is an active and busy sub-regional ENT Centre providing ENT services for Peterborough, Huntingdon, wider Cambridgeshire, South Lincolnshire, East Leicestershire and parts of Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire.

During 2023/24 a total of 20,534 outpatient attendances were recorded, 2,045 elective operations performed, and the department dealt with over 898 emergency episodes.

All ENT inpatient care is provided from Peterborough City Hospital with a dedicated specialist nursing team.

All consultation rooms are fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Each room has its own microscope, Storz Telepack 2 system, flexible laryngoscopes, rigid endoscopes, suction, digital recording, and air purifying facilities.

The audiology department has three audiology walk-in booths including a very large modern Paediatric booth, as well as caloric testing equipment.

On the adult ENT ward there is a fully equipped treatment room with operating microscope and flexible laryngoscope, where all emergency patients are initially treated.

To work in close co-operation with other medical, professional, and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the specialty, to provide high quality health care to the Trust’s patients, and to contribute to future thinking about the Trust’s strategic direction.

To participate fully and share leadership of the Clinical Governance of the specialty covering its Trust-wide activities. To attend Clinical Governance half-days as detailed in the Trust’s Guide to Job Planning unless on agreed leave or while attending emergencies.

To actively participate in departmental audits, sharing co-ordination of audit activities within the department and implementation of change.

To participate actively in research projects both within and outside of the trust (commercial and non-commercial) and to encourage research projects amongst other members of the department.

To take an active responsibility for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training, and supervision.
