Advanced Occupational Therapist - Team Leader for Surgery

We are seeking an Advanced Occupational Therapist to join our vibrant Occupational Therapy  department in our Surgery speciality.

We are looking for a motivated Band 7 Occupational Therapist with creative ideas to team lead and continue to develop the Occupational Therapy working in the area of Surgery. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary team, working closely to best manage complex patients, and expedite discharges from hospital.

If you are experienced at working in Acute Care with complex patients, knowledgeable about Community Services, committed to improving patient care, skilled in staff development, practice evidence based therapy and working at MSc level then this is the job for you.

You will be responsible for the delivery of excellent care by the Occupational Therapy team as well as carrying your own caseload. You will also be actively involved within a large Occupational Therapy department, including active participation in teaching, service and staff development and management.

This post requires some weekend / Bank Holiday working and out of hours working when required.

You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with highly developed clinical skills, with knowledge of Surgeries and how they may impact a patient's occupational performance.

You will undertake a Team Leader role within this field of practice and thus take a lead role in initiating, planning, implementing and leading the service developments in an Occupational Therapy team on a day-to-day basis.

You will provide occupational therapy to patients working autonomously and without direct supervision.

You will ensure safe and effective delivery of occupational therapy and work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary and agency teams and the Professional Lead and Operational Manager in Occupational Therapy.

You will also work closely with the Divisions to reduce length of stay and readmission rates.

  • Occupational Therapist registered with Health Professions Council
  • Degree or Diploma of Occupational Therapy
  • Fieldwork educators certificate or equivalent
  • Evidence of relevant C.P.D. in line with HCPC guidelines
  • Working to a level of expertise, knowledge and judgement commensurate with MSc

  • Member of R.C.O.T.
  • Evidence of further study / research in clinical specialty
  • Member of relevant Special Interest Group / Specialist section
  • Evidence of management / leadership training
  • Post graduate formal qualification relevant to clinical speciality (e.g. MSc)
