Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist who has an interest in leadership and management to join our Surgery team as an operational Team Lead.

The post holder will work alongside the existing Clinical Team Lead to ensure efficient and effective service delivery for the Therapy provision on the Respiratory/Surgery and Vascular wards and the Intensive Care and High Dependency unit.

For this role, you will need to demonstrate advanced planning, organisation, and communication skills, managing the team on a daily basis.  The post holder will also have the opportunity to support the team clinically when required.

It is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to 7-day services.

Main duties

The post holder will organise and oversee the running of the Surgery team, ensuring appropriate skill mix and adequate staffing to meet the clinical demand.

The role will be accountable for the production of the rosters, supervision, appraisals, job plans, and staff support and development.

The role will be responsible for team and department service improvements, recruitment, development of procedures and audit.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be predominantly clinical to provide high standards of therapeutic assessment and treatment working as an autonomous practitioner on all surgical wards.

The post holder will support the immediate therapy team on surgery and will oversee the quality of the clinical caseload across the team, assisting the partner Clinical Team Lead to provide the optimal staffing, and skill mix to match capacity and demand, whilst working closely with therapy staff and the MDT to provide the best patient care and experience.

This post will be responsible for providing staff development and training programmes.  The post holder will complete supervision, appraisals, staff competencies and assist with students, induction and training.

The post holder will also deputise for the partner Clinical Team Lead during absence to ensure efficient day to day running of the team.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Health Care Professional Council registration
  • Evidence of professional development and regular study since qualification
  • Practice/clinical Educator
Desirable criteria
  • Management or supervision qualification
  • Member of CSP

Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria
  • Participation in service development
  • Skilled practitioner who can act as a role model in both clinical and non-clinical setting
Desirable criteria
  • Member of local/national special interest group
  • Relevant validated clinical courses/MSc modules

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience as Band 6 practitioner
  • Experience in wide range of clinical areas, and demonstrates ability to work as specialist in clinical area
  • Experience in clinical and non-clinical supervision of staff members
  • Evidence of supervision of students
  • Previous participation in audit
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and its application
  • Evidence of IT skills
