Job overview

The post holder will provide a comprehensive administrative service to three consultants within the Neurosurgery and Neurology Team. This requires close liaison with all clinical and administrative staff within the Department and many other departments within the hospital and other hospitals, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. This person will manage waiting lists for both inpatient and outpatient waiting lists, book theatre patients, organize their diary, minute take for Neurosurgery and Neurology MDT’s, type clinic letters and answer patient calls. This role assists the three consultants in providing an excellent pathway taking the patient from referral to treatment. You will also help cover when other secretaries within the team are on annual leave.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a well organised individual who is highly motivated to join our busy team and who is committed to delivering a high quality service to our patients. Experience of typing/word processing and also audio typing is essential in this role. Medical secretarial experience, including support to a clinician and knowledge of medical terminology is also highly desirable. You must be able to communicate effectively and have strong interpersonal skills to deal with all levels of hierarchies and disciplines.
