Job overview

To undertake therapeutic assessments and devise play programs for children and young people in hospital, according to their individual needs and as part of the overall care plan.

Main duties of the job

Participate in the implementation of the child`s care plan.

To be responsible for ensuring the safe use of play equipment and to contribute to the maintenance of a safe and tidy environment where children and young people have access to play facilities.

Play preparations to include preparation for invasive and non-invasive procedures, distraction therapy and post procedural play.

to maintain a professional portfolio in line with HPSET recommendations for re-registration.  To maintain a high degree of health and safety at all times.

To prepare and assist with dietary needs and keep an accurate record.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Must hold Foundation Degree Health Play Specialist
  • NNEB/BTEC relevant evidence of practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • demonstrate good knowledge of the well child physical, psychological and social development
Desirable criteria
  • Experience within the hospital setting. Experience of working with children with special needs including those with challenging behaviours.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • understanding the need of confidentiality awareness
  • SEND

communication

Essential criteria
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • good interpersonal skills
  • ability to communicate sensitively with families under stress and in crisis

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to meet the physical needs of the well child
  • Good IT skills
  • able to work flexible hours and weekends according to need of clinical area
