Job overview

The Pathology Department at Bedford site has a vacancy for a Operations Support Assistant.  You will be required to undertake receipting and distribution duties. The task is very physical in nature due to the picking, packing, sorting, and delivery of goods. Responsible for good stock management, raising requisitions to suppliers, processing orders, dealing with questions and queries.  You will need to work with colleagues to ensure good stock movement.  The candidate will be responsible for autoclaving of clinical waste.
The ideal candidate will have a full understanding of best customer service practices and possess the ability to work on their own initiative developing customer relationships and new effective order processes. Excellent communications skills are paramount and the ability to work unsupervised as well as part of a team. A good standard of general education and numerical competency is a must. Computer literacy is essential. Previous experience within procurement and the Health sector would be a distinctive advantage.

Order consumables for Bedford Pathology site.

Maintain accurate records of orders and deliveries

Distribute GP supplies

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY 

1.    The post holder will be required to work independently and as part of a team, liaise with other healthcare professionals, clinicians, laboratory staff, suppliers and/or their representatives.   
2.    The post holder will contribute in the provision of an efficient service for the Pathology service. 
3.    The post holder must observe the policies and procedures relevant to the role.  The work involves routinely handling paperwork i.e. patient reports, post and deliveries to pathology that may contain pathogenic micro-organisms.   
4.    The department is highly computerised and a good knowledge of IT software is necessary to the role.

OBJECTIVES, PURPOSE & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST 

1.    To undertake general office duties.
2.    To assist with the ordering of stationery and maintaining a good level of stock control.
3.    To assist with daily ordering with suppliers and to chase outstanding deliveries.
4.    To ensure that the GP consumable orders are fulfilled to correct levels and there is no detrimental impact on the users resulting from lack of stock.
5.    To accept deliveries and direct them, in a timely fashion, to the correct discipline within Pathology.
6.    To ensure that the goods on the delivery note are in accordance with those ordered, and either receipt goods in as delivery complete or liaise with supplier with regard to outstanding goods.
7.    To ensure goods received are receipted on to the relevant software. 
8.    To assist in the maintenance of the printers.
9.    To assist with the disposal of clinical waste including the use of autoclaves.
10.    Organisation of the storerooms within Pathology.  To keep storeroom clean and ensure stock is rotated.
