Library Assistants assist Librarians in the day to day running of the library or information service. Duties include sending out letters; ordering books, journals and other materials; liaising with suppliers; cataloguing new materials; and maintain databases and records. An important part of the job is helping users to find the information they need, and issuing the resources to them. Information resources come in the form of books, journals, newspapers, leaflets, pamphlets and maps, as well as video, film, DVDs, photographs, microfiche, CDs and cassettes.

Experience of using computer databases in information research would be useful to this type of role, as would be good general administrative skills, and experience of working with the public.

Librarian

Librarians support the Trust Library Services Manager and other members of the library team to provide a multi disciplinary service to support the personal and professional needs of all staff groups and students. Post holders would need to have a first degree or postgraduate qualification in library or information science and / or be chartered with the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) .
